2. Can I get information about Parks and Recreation Department programs from the Youth Bureau?

Questions regarding Parks and Recreation programs and trips, or about employment at town parks and beaches, should be directed to the Parks Department directly at 631-728-8585.

3. Beach permits: What do I need? How do I get one?

Go to the Town’s website, then to the Parks and Recreation Department link to download an application. Submit the completed application, with a copy of a valid car registration and proof of residency.

Mail-in applications may be submitted March 15 - June 1.

To obtain a permit in person:
Parks and Recreation Office Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. beginning May 2nd-September 5th. Town Hall beginning May and June, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Attended Town Beaches: Weekends only, May 28th-July 3rd then 7 days per week, July 4th­, September 5th from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Town Beach Permits are for the taxpayer’s vehicles ONLY not for their visitors.

4. What is valid proof of residency?

You must show a current tax bill. The Parks Department does NOT accept leases as proof of residency. Renters must show three utility bills from the same utility company. One bill must be from the current month, one bill six months prior and one bill must be twelve months prior. The only utility bills accepted are Cablevision, LIPA and land-line phone bills.

You may purchase and use a daily permit at the following beaches only:

• Sagg Main Beach- Sagaponack (weekdays only)
• Pikes Beach- Westhampton Dunes

You may purchase a daily permit at one beach and move to another beach ONLY if that beach sells daily permits.

9. Is the Town of Southampton beach permit valid at Coopers Beach?

No, Southampton Village is a municipality separate from the Town of Southampton. Please call 631-283-0247 for village beach information.

10. Which beaches have concessions?

Ponquogue Beach- Hampton Bays is the only beach with a concession stand.

11. What do I need to bring for a 4×4 or ramp permit?

Proof of residency and a valid vehicle registration; names must match. Download 4×4 ramp permit application.

12. Where do I get a shell fish permit?

You may apply for a Shell Fish Permit at the:

13. Are dogs allowed on the beaches?

Dogs are not permitted at Beach Recreation Facilities April 1st – October 1st.
Dogs are permitted on Trustee / Town Access roads July 1st - September 5th, 6 p.m. - 9 a.m.

14. Do I need a permit for a fire on a town beach?

A Parks and Recreation Facility Use Permit is required for a fire on the beach.

Fire Rules: Contained fires are only allowed after 6 p.m. Contained Fires on the sand are prohibited. Facility Use Permit allows small charcoal or wood fires, in a metal container only. Gas grills are also allowed. All charcoal and wood fires must be put out with water and be disposed of properly. Fire permits may be revoked at any time by the Fire Marshal for drought conditions.

15. What Southampton Town Beaches and other facilities are handicap accessible?

Beaches are on page 7 and include Pikes Beach in Westhampton, Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays, Flying Point in Water Mill, Sagg Main in Sagaponak, and Foster Memorial Beach in Noyac. Each is listed as accessible and each has beach wheelchairs available.
